Larry Eugene Askins

Passed away September 24, 2010 in Germantown, TN

Son of Thelma Eugenia McGeehee Askins and Ralph Wilson Askins, Sr.

Graduated from Middle TN State Teachers College and University of TN, Knoxville.

He taught high school math at Columbus North High School, in Columbus, IN for almost 30 years, and was active in the United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Ralph Wilson Askins, Jr.

He leaves wife of 48 years, Betty June Marsh Askins,
Son, Kelly Marsh Askins, (wife Joanne Farley Rhodes), and grandson, Walker Farley Marsh Askins of Germantown, TN, son, David Michael Wilson Askins (and wife Mary Morgan) of Ann Arbor, MI, sister, Mary Ruth Askins Anderson of Madison, TN.

He rooted for Vanderbilt Football.

After retirement he enjoyed pursuing his lifelong passion for art, often winning first place ribbons at the Lincoln County Fair and producing commissioned pieces as well as gifts for family and friends. He especially loved sharing art and art supplies with grandson Walker.

He loved being Walker’s “Buddy” and often cheered the loudest at Walker’s basketball and soccer games!

Funeral services for Mr. Askins will be conducted at 3 PM Sunday at Higgins Funeral Home with Rev. Ann Hatcher and Pastor Kirk Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be from 1-3 PM Sunday afternoon at Higgins Funeral Home.

The class of 1954 will serve as honorary pallbearers.
