Obituary

It is with regret we announce the passing of Joseph Milton “Joe” Terry, age 77, of Fayetteville, TN. Joe was born December 11, 1944, in Limestone County, AL to the late Milton Ordway and Katherine Louise Case Terry. He passed away February 15, 2022, at Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital.

Joe was a graduate of Elkmont High School in Alabama and was a songwriter and musician. He sang country and gospel music and played lead guitar. Joe was a member of the West Fayetteville Church of Christ. He loved the Lord and enjoyed studying and discussing the Bible.

Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Peggy O’Neal Terry; son, William Joseph “Joey” and his wife Lisa Terry; grandchildren, Michael, Blake (Samantha), and Hannah (Seth) Herston; five great-grandchildren; and siblings, James (Nancy) Terry, Jim (Brenda) Terry, Kathryn Sue (Jerry) Robinson and sister-in-law, Judy Terry. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Joseph Allen and Clara Smith Terry; maternal grandparents, Henry and Earline Carter Case; son, Darren Van Terry; and brother, Jerry Terry.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life at 11 am on Monday, February 21, 2022, at West Fayetteville Church of Christ (24 Boonshill Road, Fayetteville TN) with Bro. Andy Erwin officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to missions at West Fayetteville Church of Christ, P O Box 456, Fayetteville, TN 37334.

    I never met Mr. Terry but he wrote a song that my mother recorded at Relco records in Nashville in the 70’s. Beautiful song called Life of Hurt. My blessings are with the family of Mr., Terry. May he rest in peace.
