Johnathan Whitfield was my half-brother. My father was Ralph Whitfield and mother Margarett L. Mason (Owens) I had gotten to know John and some of our family as a kid and then a teenager. He was a good person, Father, Husband, Brother, friend and so much more. I had hoped to get to know him longer as we didn’t grow up together and I’m his youngest sibling. My biological father, Ralph, never had nor wanted anything to do with me. I do wish I had gotten to know my biological father’s side of the family. John’s Mother, brother, an Uncle/Aunt, and niece live down the road from me. I will always miss John and he taught me as much as he could about my biological father’s family as he could until him and his widow moved to Indiana where I lost touch with them. I will always cherish the memories we shared and wish I had done more to know my biological father’s side of the family. I’ve lost so many of my own close family (grandparents Leo and Lois Mason, Great grandparents Sarah Ellen Hunt and Willie Hunt, Mary Sue Mason, Uncles Dean and Keith Mason, and an Aunt who passed August 2024 that was only 44, Cynthia Jean Campbell. My grandparents mostly raised me and Cindy and so are close in age so it also felt like losing a sister. I just hope that one day my biological father’s family will embrace me and get to know me. Some know me by my nick name “Jody”. If the Whitfield family would like to get to know me better, I still reside in my grandparents (Mason’s) home and my half brother Chris knows how to reach me.
God needed you more than us! Your flying high, where there is no more pain or sorrow! Till we meet again my dear friend! Only the good die young!
