Joel Lee Dyer, age 90, of Fayetteville, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2014 in Lincoln Care Center. Mr. Dyer was a native of Marshall County and the son of the late Hobert and Sadie Ailene Foster Dyer. Mr. Dyer was co-owner and operator of the 64 Drive-In Theater for many years, was a meat cutter, a school bus driver, volunteer fireman, veteran of WWII serving in the US Air Force and was a Mason. He attended Prospect Baptist Church where he was a member.
Survivors include three children, Diane (Jimmy) Buchanan, Amelia (Jim) Strasler and son Joel Lee (Rita) Dyer, Jr. Five grandchildren Brett (Mandy) Buchanan, Brian Buchanan, Alyne (Tim) Piovesan, Rett (April) Strasler and Brianne Goolsby, and nine great-grandchildren. Mr. Dyer was preceded in death by his wife Jean Murdock Dyer who passed away April 1, 2012.
Graveside services will be conducted Friday at 2:30 pm at Talley Cemetery with Dr. Ronnie Gay officiating. Visitation with the family will be Friday from 12-2 pm at Higgins Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to the Prospect Baptist Church Building Fund, Fayetteville Lincoln County Animal Shelter or the Alzheimer’s Association .
