Dorothy “Dot” Turner McAlister, age 91, of Fayetteville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at her home on September 24, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on May 3, 1934, in Athens, Alabama, Dot was the daughter of the late Harold V. Turner and Lucy Yarbrough Turner. A graduate of Blanche High School, she was a member of the Camargo Church of Christ. On November 25, 1953, Dot married the love of her life, Bobby McAlister. Their marriage of 71 years and 10 months was a testament to their enduring love.
Dot had a passion for farm life and was a hardworking partner on the McAlister and Son Farm. She spent countless hours in the fields and was a familiar, friendly face selling produce. Above all, Dot’s greatest joy was her family. She was a grandma who loved nothing more than spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family will forever cherish memories of the dresses she sewed and the hearty meals she lovingly cooked for them.
Dot is survived by her husband, Bobby McAlister; children, Jimmy (Vicky) McAlister and Jequeta (Danny) Thomason; her grandchildren, Casey (Andy) Kiel, Leanna (Adonay) Castillo, Jenny (Justin) Moorehead, and Karen Thomason; her great-grandchildren, Giddeon Kiel, Amos Kiel, Daylen Moorehead, Jamie Moorehead, Wiley Moorehead, Eva Castillo, and Melanie Castillo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Dot was preceded in death by her sister, Annie Belle Beverly, and her brothers, William Turner and infant James Turner.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Higgins Funeral Home, with Bro. Gary Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Higgins Funeral Home.
Higgins Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Dorothy “Dot” Turner McAlister.
