Obituary

Betty Jo Drennon Storey, age 87, of Fayetteville, TN, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026, at Lynchburg Nursing Center, surrounded by the love of her family. A native of Lincoln County, she was born on July 9, 1938, to the late Paul Ray and Minnie Ruth Ables Drennon.

A graduate of Central High School and a woman of the Baptist faith, Betty Jo spent her career as a dedicated professional. She served for many years in the office of Blue Ridge Shirt Factory and later retired from Copperweld.

Beyond her professional life, Betty Jo was known for her vibrant spirit and her eye for beauty. Whether she was square dancing, knitting, or crocheting, she stayed active and creative. She took great pride in decorating her home, always filling it with the bright, pretty things she loved. Yet, her greatest joy was found in connection; she was rarely happier than when she was on the phone, catching up on the lives of her cherished family and friends, likely with a chocolate milkshake in hand.

Betty Jo was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jones H. Storey; her parents; and her niece, Sonya Bell Towry.

She leaves behind a family who will miss her dearly, including her sister, Peggy Drennon Bell; her niece, Teresa (Homer) Drake; her great-nieces and nephew, Heidi (Ryan) Mann, Audrey Towry, and Brandon Drake; and her great-great-niece and nephew, Parker and Reagan Mann.

A funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Gene Fanning officiating. Burial will follow in Kirkland Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 11 AM until time of the service on Saturday at Higgins.

Higgins Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Betty Jo Drennon Storey.

Words cannot describe how beautiful and kind-hearted this lady was. Heaven truly gained an angel. Anybody that ever had contact with Betty cannot think of her without remembering that infectious smile she had. My heart is sad for our loss here, but my heart is also filled with joy knowing that she is indeed in a better place. Rest in peace my sweet friend!
