Obituary

Funeral services for Martha Jeanne Ray Hodge, age 87, of Fayetteville, TN, will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Jason Caldwell officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday from 1:00 PM until the time of service.

Martha was born on May 9, 1939, in Shelby County, AL.  A woman of many talents, she held several diverse jobs over the years. Notably, she met her beloved husband while working at Chrysler and later brought her sharp personality to sales roles at Clean Control and Sam’s Club.

To know Martha was to know a woman who was beautifully feisty, fiercely loyal, wonderfully stubborn, and deeply funny. She was profoundly faithful, loving both her church and God with all her heart. In her younger years, Martha expressed her creativity through painting. Later in life, she found joy in the simple things: the peace of sitting outside, getting her hair and nails done, watching Law and Order, and her most recent obsession, Westerns. An exceptional cook, Martha was legendary for her chocolate pies, dumplings, and gravy. Above all, she loved her family fiercely, each in her own unique way.

Survivors include her daughter, Cindy Yates; step-daughter, Debbie Hodge; grandchildren, Hollie (Brandon) Mills, Phillis Rozar, Roby Rozar, Justin (Mary) Hodge, and her favorite, Andrew Meeks; great-grandchildren, Haston Rozar, Miriam Rozar, Tyler (Courtney) Mills, Justin Mills, Chase Mills, and another precious great-grandchild due in July; great-great-granddaughter, Maevis Mills; son-in-law, Chris Burns; and sisters, Linda Fritts, Phyllis Pitts, and Patricia Warren.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, James and Edith Obermier; husband, Robert Hodge; daughter, Robin Rozar; great-grandson, Jackson Rozar; and siblings, Elizabeth Ray, Phillip Obermier, and Lisa Kauffman.

We at Higgins Funeral Home are privileged to offer care, comfort, and support to the family of Martha Jeanne Ray Hodge.
