Obituary

Graveside funeral service for Robert Ray Smith, age 74, of Hazel Green, AL, will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Wright’s Cemetery with Brother Mike Shaneyfelt officiating. There will be no visitation prior to the graveside service.

Ray was born on February 9, 1952, in the Boonshill Community to the late Robert “Pooch” Marshall Smith and Martha Hall Thompson. A man of the Baptist faith, he spent many years as a dedicated concrete truck driver for Sequatchie Concrete and Sherman Concrete. Outside of work, Ray was an enthusiast of John Deere tractors and spent many happy hours attending tractor pulls. He passed away on February 10, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nancy Hunt Smith; his step-mother, Augustine Davis Smith; his daughters, Heather Smith Rhoden and Amy (Josh) Broadbent; grandchildren, Hannah (Chris) Kolesar, Robert (Emily) Rhoden, Haley Rhoden, Nick Broadbent, and Nate Broadbent; his brothers, Ronnie Smith and Steven Smith; and his sisters, Lisa (Russell) Peters and Lora (Dwight) Arnold.

    Sorry to read about Ray’s passing. We went to school at Boonshill. I was good friends with his Dad and Patty. I ask about Ray just days ago. Im sure I met him at a restruant, just didnt recognize him. RIP Ray
