Jacqueline Joyce Braddock, the heart and matriarch of her family, passed away peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by her loved ones, on January 19, 2026, at the age of 90. She was born on September 29, 1935, in Roanoke, VA, to the late Ervin and Marie Richards.
Jacqueline was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and a beloved mother-in-law. Her love and guidance shaped generations and her presence brought warmth, laughter, and comfort to all who knew her.
Creative by nature, Jacqueline was an avid crafter who enjoyed making stepping stones, knitted scarves, jewelry, yard flags, scrapbooks, and sewing projects. While she loved creating with her hands, her greatest passion was traveling. After retiring, Jacqueline embraced the joy of seeing the world, traveling by cruise ship, train, motorhome, and car. She especially cherished traveling with her sisters and daughters, exploring destinations across the globe.
Jacqueline spent many winters in Myrtle Beach, where she delighted in capturing hundreds of photographs of sunrises over the ocean. She often said she was a gypsy at heart, always drawn to the next adventure. Her vibrant spirit, curiosity, and love for life left a lasting impression on everyone whose life she touched.
She is survived by her daughters, Marie (Darrell) Hardway, Lynne (Mark) Maciejewski, Julie (Herman) Russell, and BilleeJo (Skip) Helm; grandchildren, Jonathan Clark, Shawnah Sneed, Bryan Maciejewski, Ryan Stewart, Tiffany Smith, and Stormi Smith; great-grandchildren, Gregory Swain, Logan Swain, Collin Clark, Kara Clark, Skylar Boyd, Gabriel Boyd, Eli Wright, Liam Stewart, and Adaline Stewart; bonus great-grandchildren, Jordan Haley, Ean, Ellia, and Leighland Huffaker, Rylinn Berry, and Hadley and Avilynn McKinney; and brother, Wayne Richards.
In addition to her parents, Jacqueline was preceded in death by her sisters, Dorothy Bowman, Vickie Price, and Linda Wray; and brother, Ervin Richards, Jr.
The family will host a Celebration of Life at a later date.
Higgins Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Jacqueline Joyce Braddock.
