Obituary

A life celebration for Jeffrey Wayne Dye, age 62, of Fayetteville, TN will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Higgins Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be from 1 PM until 3 PM on Saturday at Higgins.

Jeff was born on June 30, 1961, in Lincoln County, TN to the late Charles Wayne Dye and Willa Jo Taylor Dye. Jeff worked in the grocery business in various capacities (Red Food, Bi-Lo, and Publix) for 30+ years until he became disabled. He suffered for years with lots of medical issues, including taking dialysis treatments for the past two years and having both legs amputated last year. But still he had a positive outlook on life most days and tried to put on a brave front around most people. He enjoyed loving on his many fur babies throughout the years, especially his current ones, Roxy and Razr. Jeff loved watching SEC football, especially with his son, Daniel. He always looked forward to watching the Little League World Series on TV because it reminded him of watching Daniel play sports throughout childhood.

Jeff really enjoyed his times with his grandchildren, especially playing with Kate and teasing her and being silly, just to hear her laugh. He enjoyed watching television, watching game shows, home improvement shows, and almost anything sci-fi.

Jeff was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather (“Poppie” to Kate, and “Pepaw” to Sam and Nick). He will be truly missed, but we know his pain and suffering is no more, and he can walk the streets of heaven while he watches over his loved ones.

Survivors include his wife of 38½ years, Jane Morrison Dye; son, Daniel Wayne Dye of Bells, TN; grandchildren, Katelynn Dye, Samantha McLaughlin, and Nick Smith; siblings, Leslie Johnson of Fayetteville, TN, Robert “Pete” (Betty) Dye of Fayetteville, NC, and Britt (Melodie) Dye of Fayetteville, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jeff was preceded in death by his grandfather, Otis Dye; brother, Charles “Skip” Dye; sister, Scherrie Townsend; and nephew, Eric Dye.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692; Gift Processing at National Kidney Foundation HQ, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016; or the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA  22116-7023.

Higgins Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Jeffrey Wayne Dye.

My heart hurts this morning upon learning of Jeff’s passing. Jeff and I were best friends while attending Robert E. Lee and Fayetteville Junior High schools. People often asked were we brothers as we seldom ever seen apart. I always felt as part of his family and he of mine. I will always hold dear the memories of our childhood and regret that life had taken us to opposite points of our great country. Rest now my dear friend and know that we will ride our bikes again some day.
