Obituary

Robert Rane Young was born to Dr. and Mrs. William M. Young, Sr on October 22, 1970. From an early age, Robert displayed a heart for helping others and an earnest love for God, characteristics that would follow him throughout his life.

Robert was active as a Boy Scout while growing up in Fayetteville, ultimately achieving the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout in 1985.  A 1989 graduate of Lincoln County High School, he began studying Shorei Goju Karate in the mid 80’s. He received his Shodan (first-degree black belt) from Sensei Garry Hampton in 2008. He continued training in Trias Karate until his passing.

Robert was a member of Theta Xi fraternity while attending Georgia Tech University in Atlanta, and he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He was employed as a software engineer, most recently at Tec-Masters, Inc. in Huntsville.

Robert’s desire to serve his fellow man was demonstrated by his previous service as a member of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s posse and as a deacon at Washington Street church of Christ.

Robert was preceded in death by his father, Dr. William M. Young, Sr. He is survived by his mother, Suzanne Holt Young; his daughter Erin Hayley Young; his sons, Noah McKinney Young and Eli Oren Young; brother, Dr. William McKinney Young, Jr. (Lanette) of Chattanooga; sister Laura Young Clark (Mark) of Fayetteville; nieces and nephews, Connor, Tyler and Ashley Young of Chattanooga, Megan Vaughn (Alex) of Soddy Daisy, TN, Travis Clark of Chattanooga, and Will and Sara Clark of Fayetteville; along with cousins and other extended family.

Visitation with the family will be Saturday, September 24th from 10am until time of service at 12pm at Higgins Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Washington Street church of Christ Youth Group. P.O. Box 324, Fayetteville, TN 37334

    Suzanne,
My heart goes out to you. I have been out of town and just now heard of your loss. I can’t emagine your heartbreak. I believe that Robert is now in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, which is a much better place that I hope to be myself someday.

My memories of Robert are as a person who would always stand up for others – no matter who they were or whom he was with. My first memories are of Robert doing this for me when I was the newest (and smallest) kid joining the Cub Scout pack that was made up of him and his friends. I saw this continue through high school, when it would have been easy to let some things slide to try and be more popular. We shared a lot of good laughs as well and I am so sorry for your loss. Your family has been and will continue to be in my prayers.

I met Robert about 2 years ago when he came to train in Martial Arts at my Dojo. He was always quick with a smile and supportive of everyone offering words of encouragement when class got a little challenging. He often stayed after practice and talked with me about life. He said that Martial Arts brought a sense of balance to him and kept him centered and focused. I told him that the doors to my Dojo were always open for him. Just like the gates to Heaven that I know he walked through. Robert will be missed but most importantly he leaves behind fond memories and kind words that will never be forgotten.

No words will ever be able to explain the heart break of hearing of this passing. He was a friend who was the first person to tell me he was proud of my service to this country with a gift I will always charish because he gave it from his heart and thoughtfulness. He gave me something that only he and I discussed in our friendship. Although we drifted apart he was and will always be in my mind, my
heart and in my prayers as a kind and gentle soul. We all struggle in this life and most people do not understand the pain we suffer. All I can say is the pain of this life is over. Robert Young I will always remember the time me, you and Noah went horseback riding and talked about the western days gone bye. That is how I will remember my friend and brother.

So sad to read this.. Nobody ever knows the depths of the struggles we have here on this earth… Suzanne, my heart goes out to you, I don’t want to sound selfish, but I’m so happy our “sweet Dr. Young” did not have to endure this pain and I pray they are in Heaven together. Our condolences to the Young Family on the passing of Robert.
We never had an opportunity to meet Robert but his passing is undoubtedly hurtful and unexpected to his wonderful family.
May our Almighty God provide the entire Young family the solace and love they deserve during their time of mourning.

In times of sorrow and grief we must remember the good times. I think of my friendship with Robert as kids, teenagers, and classmates. He always had a smile and joke. My thoughts on this sad news were that one day we will all see Robert and his smile again. Until we meet again my friend! My prayers and thoughts are with your family now and always.

To those who don’t know, I called you Cochise for 3 years from the time we met in Huntsville. You referred to me as Batman. But we’re Brothers in Christ! My memories of you are many. From practicing Martial Arts, to countless Bible Studies, to all the prayers we shared and the night I found you stranded on the highway needing a ride home. There was nothing we didn’t do for each other. Thank you for being my Best friend and Brother. Thank you for your love for my son and always asking about him. I know you are Free with God now! I love you Brother! Batman

Robert was one of those rare individuals who never met a stranger. Everyone he met was just a friend he didn’t know he had yet.

On the death of a friend, we should consider that the fates through confidence have devolved on us the task of a double living, that we have henceforth to fulfill the promise of our friend’s life also, in our own, to the world.

We all have pain and heartbreak in this life and no one but God knows what we go through, Robert no longer has to struggle through life. My heart is breaking with the loss of one of my “boys”. I woke up many mornings with the floor covered with sleeping boys and I loved them all. Robert, I love you and may you now have peace.
