Obituary

Funeral service for Mrs. Lucille Adams Layne, age 83, of Fayetteville, TN, will be conducted at 2 PM on Sunday, November 17, 2019, at Higgins Funeral Home with Dr. Jon Hathcock officiating. Burial will follow in Higgins Cedar Hills Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be held at 11 AM until time of service at 2 PM on Sunday at Higgins.

Lucille was born on December 6, 1935 in Shelbyville, TN to the late Russell and Rhea Eaton Adams and raised by the late Sam and Sarah Pickle. She was a Shelbyville Central High School graduate and later worked for the Lincoln County Bank for 26 years before retiring in 1998. Lucille was a member of First Baptist Church of Fayetteville. She loved to read, spend time with her grandchildren, and watching hummingbirds. She always attended the Tennessee Walking Horse Celebration from the very first one until this past year. Her favorite thing to do was ride around in the truck with her husband Toddy. Mrs. Layne passed away on November 14, 2019 at her residence.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Toddy Layne; children, Cathy (Ray) Pitts and Mike (Melody) Layne all of Fayetteville, TN; grandchildren, Todd (Shannon) Pitts of Huntsville, AL, Nikki (Adrian) Franklin of Mulberry, TN, Daniel (Shannon) Pitts of Elora, TN, Steven (Melissa) Pitts of Hazel Green, AL, Stacey (Josh) Hearty of Murfreesboro, TN, and Scott (Jessie) Layne of Fayetteville, TN; great-grandchildren, Emma Hall, John Pitts, Anna Layne Franklin, Sam Pitts, Lucas Ashworth, Alex Pitts, Calley Franklin, Sydney Pitts, Rett Franklin, Claire Pitts, Camdyn Pitts, Taitum Pitts, Hudson Layne, Madison Hearty, and Milli Layne; twin sister, Louise (Wayne) Jones of Shelbyville, TN; sisters-in-law, Elease Brown of Madison, AL, June (Bob) Lowe of Lewisburg, TN, Jane Pickle of Shelbyville, TN and Barbara (Larry) Watson of Pulaski, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to both sets of her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Ruth Adams; brothers, Doyle, Sam Jr., Richard, and Charles Pickle; sisters, Virginia Phillips and Carrie Mae Vaughn; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lincoln Home Health and Hospice at 2250 Thornton Taylor Pkwy B, Fayetteville, TN 37334, Multi County Cancer Support Network, C/O Cary B. Sullivan at PO Box 633, Dechard, TN 37324, or Alzheimer’s Tennessee, Inc. at 207 N. Jackson Street, Tullahoma, TN 37388.
