Memorial services for Wilma Jenkins King, age 88 of Fayetteville, will be conducted Sunday at 1:00 PM at Higgins Funeral Home with Rev. Van Johnson officiating. Private burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery beside her husband, J. C. King who passed away in 2006. Mrs. King passed away Tuesday morning at her residence.
She was a native of Lawrence County, TN and the daughter of the late Marvin and Vassie McGuire Jenkins. Mrs. King was an artist at King’s Studio and was a member of the Fayetteville First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons: John King and wife Wanda of Maury County and Benny King and wife Regina of Fayetteville, daughter: Angela Sims and husband Bobby of Eads, TN, grandchildren: Chris King of Long Island, NY, Melody Turpin and husband Ryan of Lexington, KY, Sam King and wife Mary of Lexington, KY, Beth Wolfe and husband Jamie of Clemmons, NC, Jenny Cowell and husband Zack of Memphis, and Paige McCoy and husband Chris of Eads, TN, twelve great-grandchildren, sister Faye Isaacs and husband Howard of Nashville, sister-in-law Pegga Jenkins of Fayetteville and sister-in-law Hazel King of Nashville. Mrs. King was preceded in death by grandson Michael King, brothers Wilford Jenkins and brother-in-law Melvin King.
Visitation with the family will be Saturday 5-8 PM at Higgins Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Fayetteville First Baptist Church.

Dear Family,
Ms. Wilma is the one of the sweetest, kindest ladies I have ever known. From the time I can ever remember, she and your dad were always special people. As a little girl growing up, they were my favorite people to “visit” at the studio. They were so caring and sharing. I will never forget them. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

I was so sorry to learn of Wilma’s death. She was a wonderful person and loved her family beyond all else.

Wilma King set such an example for me as a young girl in Fayetteville! Always laughing, painting, decorating, changing life directions! She and JC reinvented themselves while exploring life together and my husband and I have such fond memories of them! I can see her smiling right now!

AUNT Wilma, You will be missed by all of us who loved you. You were a great person and a great aunt. I will always remember the good times as a child and as a adult and the great visits Hamp and I had with you. Ann and I extend our sincere condolences to the entire King family. JC and Wilma were a real encouragement to us during our “growing up” years. John and I had the priviledge of being college roommates at Belmont University. JC and Wilma were a part of our lives during that time and visited us later in life. Their encouragement was very special. While they are missed here, Heaven rejoices at the Homecoming of one of God’s special people.

I didn’t know Mrs. King, but I did have the awesome privilege of having her son, Mr. Benny King, as my middle school social studies teacher. Mr. King is one of the reasons I chose teaching as a career, and Mrs. King must have been an extraordinary human being and mother to have raised such an upstanding son. Mr. King, I am sorry for your loss and pray that the Holy Spirit comforts you and all your family during this time of mourning. Es tut mir leid.

I regret that I will be unable to attend visitation with you all. Mr. and Mrs. King were both wonderful people and raised a fine family. I have many memories of them at First Baptist. She always had a smile on her face. Know that God has a wonderful angel now and she and Mr. King are walking the golden streets of heaven. Love you and God bless!
