William E. Flynt

It is with regret we announce the passing of Mr. William E. Flynt, age 91, of Fayetteville, TN. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, March 27, 2022, at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. David Sain officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be from 5 pm until 8pm on Saturday at Higgins.

Mr. Flynt was born May 29, 1930, in Akron, OH to the late Dillard and Leah Ellis Flynt. Known by most as Sonny, he worked with concrete and as a brick mason with his father in his early years. After a brief stint in the US Army, he worked for NASA for 37 years, and after his retirement spent another 18 years as a NASA affiliated contractor. Sonny enjoyed working on his farm, fishing, and building things with his hands. He also loved being with his family. Mr. Flynt passed away March 24, 2022, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Survivors include his children, Mona Quick and husband Jimmy, Teresa Rutledge and husband Kenny, Jeffery Flynt and wife Wendy; grandchildren, Chris Buchanan and wife Laura, Amanda Hill, Matthew Hill, Casey Quick, Cassie Hillis and husband Jeremy, Leah Moore-Fields and husband Eddie, Caitlin Maynard and husband Jeremiah, and Faith Flynt; sisters Joyce Flynt Farmer, Doris Flynt Harwell, Peggy Flynt McAllister; twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mona Evelyn Green Flynt; daughter, Diane Flynt Buchanan; son, William Edwin (Eddie) Flynt, Jr.; granddaughter, Carrie Allison Buchanan; and sister, Shirley Flynt Gray.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memorial Processing, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.

Mr. Flynt was my Sunday school teacher at Wells Hill Church of Christ. I still have a little book he gave me “The Greatest Thing in the World” about love. I have never forgotten him. Thank you Mr. Flynt ❤️
