William Burton Towry

Funeral services for Mr. William Burton Towry, age 82, of Fayetteville will be conducted at 11AM Friday at the Fayetteville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church with Dr. Calvin Todd officiating.  Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens with Higgins Funeral Home in charge.  Mr. Towry passed away Tuesday July 28th in Donalson Skilled Care Center.

He was a native of Lincoln County, son of the late Shields and Pauline Towry. Burton took over Towry Gin Company from his father and later founded Towry Enterprises, a trucking company and grain buying business in Kirkland, TN.  He, along with his wife Billie Lindsay  Towry, were owners and operators of Towry Gin Company and Grainery.  He was owner of Quality Car Sales, a member of the Fayetteville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church and a Shriner.  Mr. Towry was a member of the Fayetteville Lions Club where he was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship which is the Highest Honor presented by the Lions Club.  After his wife, Mr. Towrys second love was flying. He received his pilot’s license in 1953.   He was a devoted and loving father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years Billie Lindsay Towry of Fayetteville, daughter Linda Lane-Overton of Dothan, AL, sons Burt Towry of Brentwood, TN and Bill Towry of Fayetteville, grandchildren Michael Lane of  Nashville, Lindsay and  Jacob Towry of Brentwood and Shields Towry of Fayetteville and one  brother Hugh Towry of Fayetteville.

Visitation with the family will be Thursday from 4-8PM at Higgins Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to ARP Church or the Fayetteville Lions Club.
