Velma Lee Hargrove Walp

Graveside funeral service for Mrs. Velma Lee Hargrove Walp, age 90 of Elora, TN will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 9th at Elora Cemetery with Bro. Lucas Stone and Bro. Milton Martin officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM at Higgins Funeral Home.

Velma was born on August 7, 1929 in Pond, Tennessee (Dickson County) to the late Noah Lee and Macel Dunn Hargrove. She passed away on July 6, 2020 at her daughter’s residence surrounded by her loving family.

Velma worked as the manager of the Elora Elementary School cafeteria for several years until she retired in 1983 and became a full time grandma, caring for her beloved grandchildren. She was a member of the Elora Baptist Church in Elora, TN. Ms. Walp loved her family very much and especially enjoyed cooking and caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had dementia for the last ten years and resided at her daughter’s home for the last six years, where her daughter thoroughly enjoyed caring for her. She remained loving and sweet until the end and will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.

Survivors include her children, Dianne (Tim) Sumners, Michael Walp, Debbie (Jack) Stone, and Darrell (Renea) Walp; grandchildren, Keri (Randy) Smith, Tom Delap, Laura Beth (Bret) Quick, Lucas (Alex) Stone, Ben Walp, Nicholas (Chelsie) Walp, and Ethan (Carlee) Walp; great-grandchildren Miles Smith, Mick Smith, Marshall Smith, Clint Quick, Grant Quick, Lilly-Grace Stone, Milly-Ruth Stone, Tatum Delap, Kylen Delap, Tuffy Delap, Annie Delap, Annabeth Walp, Nora Kate Walp, and Sawyer Walp; and siblings, J.B. (Priscilla) Hargrove and Peggy Mason of Dickson, TN. In addition to her parents, Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Elmo “Tuffy” Walp; daughter-in-law, Lili Walp; granddaughter, Tammy Lee Delap; and sisters, Themla (Pete) Moon and Dimple Bell Dean.

Pallbearers include Tom Delap, Lucas Stone, Nicholas Walp, Ethan Walp, Ben Walp, Miles Smith, Randy Smith, and Bret Quick. Honorary pallbearers include Mick Smith, Marshall Smith, Clint Quick, Grant Quick, Tuffy Delap, and Sawyer Walp.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lincoln County Home Health and Hospice, 2250 Thornton Taylor Parkway, Suite B, Fayetteville, TN 37334.

Higgins Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Mrs. Velma Lee Walp.

In accordance with State of Tennessee Executive Order issued by Governor Bill Lee, social gatherings are limited to no more than 50 participants.
