Thomas Wilburn Sumners

Funeral service for Mr. Thomas Wilburn Sumners, age 94 of Fayetteville, will be conducted Sunday, March 8, 2015 at 3 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Van Johnson officiating. Mr. Sumners passed away Friday March 6, 2015 at his home.
A native of Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Leon and Clara Mae Sumners. He was owner of Sumner’s Cafe’ and loved hunting and fishing. Mr. Sumners enjoyed pulling Skiers with his boat, and was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Sybil Rives Sumners; children Bonnie (Terry) Reavis, and Mike (Cheryl) Sumners; step-children Larry (Peggy) Marshall, and Chris (Mr. Sumner’s caregiver, Lynn) Counts; grandchildren Allison Reavis, Nicole (Keith) White, and Cole (Donna) Sumners; several step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchilren all of Fayetteville; and brother Mark Sumners of Hendersonville. Mr. Sumners was preceded in death by his first wife Wilba Elizabeth Maddox Sumners; a infant son Thomas Wilburn Sumners, Jr; and a brother James Cole Sumners.
Visitation with the family will be Sunday from 1 until 3 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the local VFW or the Alzheimer’s Association.

You made the best stew, slawburgers and hamburger steaks ever! The South side of the square was never the same after you left it. Will miss you! You nicknamed me Little Bear.

Sybil & family, you have my sympathy and love as you say goodbye. You had the sweetest relationship and you were always there for him. Everyone should be blessed with so much love and compassion. Love you dearly. Call me anytime at 228-8577.
