Miss Taran Lynn McCarthy, age 58 of Fayetteville, passed away at her home February 26, 2012. She was the daughter of the Robert and Betty Kelly McCarthy also of Fayetteville. She was a native of Key West, FL and was a jewelry designer. Survivors in addition to her parents include four sisters Tracy A. McCarthy of Lititz, PA, Kelly M. Kelly of Pensacola, FL, Jean K. Peterson of CA and Susan Sherman of Pensacola, FL.
Visitation with the family will be Thursday from 2-4PM at Higgins Funeral Home.

We met several years ago thru our great love of gemstones. I would answer her questions about gems and she would answer my questions about faceting, rock collecting and design. She became one of my favorite gems!!!! She was beautiful, smart (very smart) and funny. Taran loved life. Taran loved her family. I saw her a couple of weeks ago and although she had been sick, her spirits seemed good. I will miss her, our lunches, our conversations and her laugh. Rest in peace.

Taran was such a kind and talented lady. I have been blessed to know her for a couple of years. She was one of my lapidary instructor at the Tullahoma site for MTGMS. She will always be considered as a wonderful friend who is greatly missed. May God comfort us all. Betty Hawkins

Taran and I became friends very quickly. That’s the way she was to strangers. I enjoyed our times together and will truly miss her. She was always willing to share her knowledge of lapidary and jewelry making with any of us. I was always amazed at her cheerfulness and upbeat attitude in spite of her problems. I miss her but know that she is at rest with the Lord.

I embroidered many things for Taran and her family. She had such an artist’s approach to everything she did and wonderful ideas of embellishing garments. I loved talking to her. She had such rich wisdom and knowledge and she shared her beautiful gem work with me several times – what beautiful pieces. I will miss not knowing she is around. I always wanted her to tell me again how to establish an asparagus bed, but I never got around to calling her about that. My life was enriched and blessed to have met her and enjoyed our conversations.

Taran was one of the first persons I met when I moved to TN last July. After enrolling at the Tullahoma MTGM Lapidary School she was assigned as my instructor. Her kindly ways, gentleness and sense of humor were all such a part of her. While I entered hardly knowing what lapidary meant and am old enough to be her mother, her acceptance was felt immediately. She was encouraging, patient and willing to demonstrate a second time. She always made sure I understood the process and that I felt good about what I was making. Taran loved her family and told stories I could relate to and provided recipes and other kind deeds. I will think of her often and am indeed blessed to have had her in my life these past few months.

I met Taren at the MTGMS show. She had the most beautiful bright green eye’s. Then when I started at Tullahoma she encouraged me. Lifted me up when I was not feeling so confident in what ever I was teaching or doing, She would always compliment on it.
Before Christmas 2010, she had a Navy sweatshirt on and I loved it. (my son is in the navy). At our Christmas party she wrapped it up and gave it to me. So sweet
She would be at school even when I knew she didn’t feel like it and she did beautiful work.
She will be missed, greatly
