Suzanne Holt Young

Mrs. Suzanne Holt Young, age 77 of Fayetteville, TN, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2020 after a long illness.

Born in Milan, Tennessee, she was the daughter of Robert Lloyd Holt and Tommye Sue Reasons Holt. A woman of boundless energy and enthusiasm, she lived courageously, celebrated fully, explored the world fearlessly, and loved generously. Throughout her life, Suzanne had the ability to make those around her feel valued and important.

After graduating from Milan High School, she studied chemistry and biology at Memphis State University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from the University of Tennessee in Memphis, where she met her husband Dr. William M. Young, Sr. The Young’s moved to Fayetteville in 1966, and Suzanne enjoyed raising their children as a stay-at-home mom. Her desire to serve people led her to accept a position as a Medical Technologist at Lincoln Medical Center, where she worked for over 20 years.

Mrs. Young worshiped and served at the Washington Street church of Christ and longed for everyone to know the love of Jesus. She and Dr. Bill supported and participated in medical mission work in Africa and Central America. In 1988, they began supporting and working in short-term medical mission work in Tegucigalpa and Catacamas, Honduras, Central America.  In 1993 and 1994,they lived full-time in Tegucigalpa, providing free medical care in support of Clinica Amicus at Baxter Institute. The Young’s adored the people of Honduras, and they continued to participate in short-term mission trips to Honduras throughout the rest of their lives.

Mrs. Young is survived by a son, Dr. William (Lanette) Young, Jr. of Chattanooga; a daughter, Laura (Mark) Clark of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Connor, Tyler, and Ashley Young, Noah, Erin, and Eli Young, Will and Sara Clark; step-grandchildren, Travis Clark of Tomas Borge, Nicaragua, and Megan (Alex) Vaughn of Chattanooga; and step-great grandchildren Blakeli, Rocklin, Fisher, and Canaan Vaughn.

In addition to her parents, Suzanne was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William M. Young, Sr., and son, Robert Young.

Visitation with the family will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 12, at Higgins Funeral Home. Funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 13, at Washington Street Church of Christ with Bro. Ricky Pierce officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the Honduras Mission Fund at Washington Street church of Christ, P.O. Box 324, Fayetteville, TN 37334.

The world is a better place because Suzanne passed through it. She Was a devoted wife, Mother, and Grandmother. But she also cared for her fellow man. She will be sorely missed and never forgotten.

It’s funny how God can allow the same scenario make us both happy and sad simultaneously. When i learned this morning that Mrs Suzanne had walked into the clearing at the end of the path, I had those feelings. I’m sad because I won’t get to see her smiling face or feel her loving embrace again, this side of heaven. But, I’m so happy that she finally won her battle with cancer and I’m happy that she doesn’t have to feel the pain anymore and I’m happy that she is reunited with the ones she has been missing, mostly I’m happy to have known her and to have had her be such an influence in my life. Vaya con Dios !
