Steve V. Brooks

Funeral service for Steve Valerie Brooks, age 75, of Fayetteville, TN, will be conducted at 2 PM Sunday, July 7, 2019 at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Kirk Smith and Bro. James Strope officiating. Burial will follow in the Lincoln Cemetery.

Steve was born on July 9, 1943 in Lincoln County, Tennessee to the late Dorothy Dimple Milstead Brooks, and William Clayton “Bill” (Louise Ashby) Brooks. Paul McCartney once said, “You can judge a man’s true character by the way he treats his fellow animals.” Steve was an animal lover, he enjoyed rescuing dogs and cats. Mr. Brooks was a member of the Prospect Baptist Church and worked as a heavy equipment operator with Lincoln Paving and Wright’s Paving. He passed away on July 4, 2019 at Lynchburg Nursing Center.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Carolyn Sue Shelton Brooks; sister, Billie Jo (David) Holt of Fayetteville; niece, Phyllis (Randall) Johnston and their daughter, Hannah; niece, Janet (JÜrgen) Mohr and their son Michael; niece, Angie Brooks; step-brother, Delton (Linda) Ashby of Petersburg; brothers-in-law, Terrell (Sarah) Shelton of Fayetteville, and Andy (Karen) Shelton of Flintville; sisters-in-law, Oneita (Jimmy) Wolaver of Fayetteville, and Markeita (John) Novak of IL; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and step-mother, Steve was preceded in death by a brother, Barry Clayton Brooks; and a brother-in-law, Brent Shelton.

Visitation with the family will be from 12 PM until 2 PM on Sunday at Higgins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Southern Alliance Spay Neuter Clinic, at 2703 Huntsville Highway, Fayetteville, TN 37334. Higgins Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Steve Valerie Brooks.

Sue so sorry for your loss. Saw Jimmy & Oneita last week at the race track in Paducah and they said Steve was in rough shape.
