Stephen Orr

On November 20th, Stephen Orr, age 64, of Fayetteville, TN, took his first steps as he ran to the open arms of Jesus! Born with cerebral palsy, Stephen was unable to walk or talk during his earthly life. His body, though small and frail, was the home of a huge heart. Stephen used that heart to love scores of people throughout his life. He made sure his friends and family knew just how much he loved them.

Stephen was a longtime member of Parks City Baptist Church. He loved gospel singing, a good game of Rook, and spending time with family and friends. He is predeceased by his father Harry Orr, his step-father William Myrick, and his niece, Laura Beck. He leaves behind a large family and many friends to cherish his memory. Survivors include his mother, Geneva Orr Myrick; siblings – Harriette Orr Rost, Dawn Myrick (Craig) Stopinski, David (Debbie) Myrick, Susan Orr (Scott) Beck, Dale Myrick (Charlie) Davis; and countless nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Funeral service for Stephen will be conducted at 2 PM on Friday, November 23, 2018 at Higgins Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be from 12 PM until 2 PM on Friday at Higgins Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Lincoln/Donaldson Care Centers for the love and care given to Stephen over the past 14 years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Grace Fund c/o First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 623 Fayetteville, TN 37334. The Grace Fund is a medical travel fund to assist patients seeking specialized medical treatment.

Steve was such a sweet guy. We saw him on regular basis at the nursing home. I wonder what he was trying so hard to tell us. God bless him.

Stephen was a wonderful Christian man. Bro. Charlie Hammons used to say that Stephen would be easily recognized in heaven: he’d be the only one running. May Jesus bless and comfort the family – you know beyond the shadow of any doubt where he is now!

When tomorrow starts without me
And I’m not here to see
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
All filled with tears for me

I wish you wouldn’t cry
The Way you did today
While thinking of the many things
We did not get to say

I know how much you love me
As much as I love you
Each time that you think of me
I know you will miss me too

When tomorrow starts with out me
Please try to understand
That an angel came and called my name
And took me by the hand

The angel said my place was ready
In heaven far above
And That I would have to leave behind
All those I Dearly Love

But When I walked through Heaven’s Gates
I felt so much at home
When GOD looked down and smiled at me
From his golden throne

He said This Is Eternity
And All I promised you
Today for life on earth is done
But Here it starts a new

I promise no tomorrow
For today will always last
And Since each day’s the exact same way
There is no longing for the past

So When Tomorrow starts without me
Do not think we’re apart
For every time you think of me
Remember I’m right here in your heart.

Steve and Charlie used to be in a race to see who could get to Heaven first. Looks like Steve won that race. What a fine Christian man. He was some kind of rook player, although he and Chuck were accused of cheating. The first step Steve ever took was on street of gold. Love you little buddy.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I hope you find comfort in Jesus words at John 5:28,29. There Jesus promised a resurrection of our loved ones, saying that the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out. These resurrected ones will inherit the earth, as Jesus spoke about in Matthew chapter 5. Then, under the rule of God’s Kingdom, they will enjoy life the way God originally intended, in perfect health with no sorrow, pain or death. (Psalms 37:29. Isaiah 33:24. Revelation 21:4) What a wonderful time that will be! If you would like to learn more about this hope, please visit jw.org. Please accept my condolences.

Deepest sympathy for your loss. May your family find comfort in the scriptural hope found at Revelation 21:4:”..death will be no more.., the former things have passed away.”
