Solon Howard Gaines

Funeral service for Mr. Solon Howard Gaines, age 86, of Fayetteville, will be conducted Monday, October 19, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Hunter and Bro. Jim Black officiating. Burial will follow in Giles Memory Gardens. Mr. Gaines passed away Friday, October 16, 2015 at St. Thomas West.

Mr. Gaines was a native of Giles County, TN, the son of the late William Henry and Iva Sue Phillips Gaines. He worked at Genesco for 43 years and Fayetteville City Schools for over 10 years and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife Annie Sue Rogers Gaines of Fayetteville, son Rick (Deloris) Gaines of Fayetteville, granddaughters Michelle Gaines, Nikki Gaines both of Sarasota, FL, Meredith Gaines of Dallas, TX, Brittany Green, Brooke Green both of Fayetteville, TN, great grandsons Christian Gaines and Jagger Williams both of Sarasota, FL, sisters Virginia Cole, Fay (Billy) Bell all of Pulaski, TN, brother Doc (Wilma) Gaines and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by brother Jim Gaines and sister Denise Windsor.

Visitation with the family will be Sunday from 4 until 7 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, P. O. Box 1000 Dept 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908 or the Washington Street Church of Christ Honduras Mission Fund, PO Box 324, Fayetteville, TN 37334.

Mrs. Sue and Rick, I am so sorry to hear the passing for Mr. Howard. I will always remember the fun times of Mr. Howard, Mr. Gil and Daddy. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Aunt Sue, Rick and family,
Our hearts break for you all. Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you all during this difficult time. We have so many good memories of Uncle Howard, will miss he dearly. Hugs!

Howard always made me feel a connection to our home and upbringing. I have just seen of his passing. To all who knew and loved him I offer sincere sympathy. He was a loving, lovely person.
