Shirley Marion Counts

Funeral service for Shirley Marion Counts, age 69, of Gretna, Louisiana, formerly of Elora, TN, will be conducted at 1 PM on Friday, June 7, 2019, at Higgins Funeral Home. Bro. Shane Reyer will officiate. Burial will follow in the Morgan Cemetery beside her husband, Ted Davis Counts.

Shirley was born on June 11, 1949 in Huntsville, AL to the late Lev Shields and Mary Helen Bradford Bostick. She enjoyed reading and playing with her grandchildren. Mrs. Counts retired in 2012 from the Fayetteville Walmart where she was the Department Manager of the Bakery. Shirley was a member of the First Baptist Church of Belle Chasse in Louisiana. Mrs. Counts passed away on June 1, 2019 in Gretna, LA, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Survivors include her daughters, Hope (Scott) Umsted of Collierville, TN, Bridget (Michael) Hill of Ardmore, AL, and Robin (Jacob) Garbin of Gretna, LA; grandchildren, Chad, Austin, Truker, Brittany, Heather, Matthew, Abi, Nicholas, Olivia, Zoe, Sarah and Luke; great-grandson, Owen; and sisters, Barbara Roberts, Teresa (Danny) Thompson, and Kimberly (Carl) Collier.

Visitation with the family will be from 11 AM until 1 PM on Friday at Higgins Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Cary B Sullivan Lincoln County Tribute Chair, P.O. Box 470, Fayetteville, TN 37334.

Higgins Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Mrs. Shirley Marion Counts.

Aunt Shirley,

We had fun, we had cookouts and things, I love you and I miss you. You helped Granny with our Granny with our Christmas presents. We will meet again in Heaven one day!

I’m so sorry. I worked with Shirley many yrs at Walmart bakery she was a very good friend. We have missed her all these years but knew she was getting to enjoy her grandchildren I Loved her. The family is in my thoughts and prayers.

God Bless the family of Shirley Marion Counts. I went to school with Shirley and I’ll never forget her. She was one of the smartest young ladies at our school. She was always nice to everyone. Haven’t seen her in a very long time, but I think of her so often.
