Shirley Dorene Rogers

It is with regret we announce the passing of Mrs. Shirley Dorene Rogers, age 87, of Fayetteville, TN. Dorene was born on March 26, 1933 in Lincoln County, TN to the late Eddie Guy and Leona Hunter Thompson. She passed away on April 25, 2020, in Lynchburg, TN, surrounded by her loving family.

Dorene was a member of Christian Fellowship Church and of the Baptist Faith. Family was everything to Mrs. Rogers and she loved them all dearly.

Survivors include her son-in-law, Gary Don Thornton of Fayetteville; granddaughters, Christie René (Doug) Oyler of Huntsville, and Sonja D. (Prescott) Smith of Lynchburg; great-grandchildren, Ashley DeAnna Carlisle, Shelby Morgan Smith, Amber Cheyenne Reid, and Shelton Hayden Smith; great-great-grandsons, Landon and Lane Carlisle; niece and special caregiver, Josephine Honea; and numerous other nieces, nephews, and extended family. In addition to her parents, Dorene was preceded in death by her husband, Troy W. Rogers; daughter, Geneva Ann Thornton; and siblings, Joyce Payne, Margaret Gilliam, Carrie Dickey, Geneva Clark, and James “Jack” Thompson.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic there will be no public gathering at this time. A private family service will be at Kelso Cemetery. The family invites you to share memories at higginsfh.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude, Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
