Rudolph John (Rudy) Greer

Graveside service for Rudolph John (Rudy) Greer, age 83 of Huntsville, will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery with Bro. Richard Hughes officiating. Mr. Greer passed away Wednesday morning in Huntsville Hospital.
A native of Kansas City, MO, he was the son of the late Rufo and Anna Sima Greer. Mr. Greer was a graduate of the University of Central OK in 1955, with both physics and math degrees and worked for several government contractors, before joining the Army Civilian workforce in 1963. He was instrumental in bringing computer technology to NASA in the early 60’s assisting to place the man on the moon. He worked on several missile programs and served as Chief Engineer with the Viper, Chaparral and Line of Sight Forward Heavy Missile programs at Redstone Arsenal before retirement.
Mr. Greer also designed and built custom homes in Huntsville before his second retirement in 2004. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Catholic Church. He loved his family, golfing, race cars and building robotics.
Survivors include his wife Jane (Rawls) Greer of Huntsville, children Rudolph John Greer, Jr (Amy) of Arab, AL, Jennifer (Marcus) Edwards of Semora, NC, Thomas Riley of Owasso, OK, grandchildren Erin Looney Frye, Kristin Greer, Justin Bradley, great-grandchildren Brody Frye, Aiden Bradley and Kendall Bradley, brothers Frank Greer of New York, Michael Greer of Florida and sister Evangeline Kiewelen of Connecticut and several nieces and nephews and a special nephew Steve Shelton of Fayetteville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother David Greer.
Visitation with the family will be Saturday 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home.

Jane, My heart feels for yours at this sad time but God’s love, sweet memories, and knowledge that your separation from your Rudy is only temporary will carry you through these days ahead. I will be unable to be there in person but my prayers will be covering you during Rudy’s service and beyond.

My dear friend, Jane, I have know you and Boo Kitty since she was only 3 months old, your first few times on CC. We became close friends, not in miles, but in our hearts. My heart aches for you in the loss of your precious Rudy. It’s a joy to know that he’s in Heaven and no longer suffering the awful breathing problems he had. I’m sending sincere condolences and I pray that only the best of memories will fill you mind and give you comfort during this very difficult time. Dearest Jane, Keeping you wrapped in my prayers and my heart, dear friend. Sending you heartfelt sympathy for your loss of this intelligent and outstanding man. Wish I could be there with you at this time, but I am there in Spirit. Keeping precious Boo Kitty in my prayers always and happy to learn that she is staying at the Vet’s Office where she will be more comfortable and less stressed. Dear Jane and family,

We are so sad for the loss of Rudy but are so thankful we got to meet both of you and spend a few happy hours together. Jeff & I will treasure those memories. Rudy was a very interesting man and we are grateful for his service to our nation’s Space Program.
