Robert “Pooch” Marshall Smith

Funeral service for Mr. Robert “Pooch” Marshall Smith, age 92, of Petersburg, TN, will be conducted on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at 1 PM at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Chuck Brown and Bro. Mike Shaneyfelt officiating. Burial will follow in Wright’s Cemetery.

Mr. Smith was born on September 2, 1925 in Lincoln County, TN to the late Herman Ellis and Lana Coble Smith. He served in the United States Army during WWII. He loved his grandchildren dearly and always made them feel loved and welcomed. He was always laughing and having a good time. He enjoyed playing cards, dominoes and gardening. He was a member of Red Oaks Church of Christ. Mr. Smith passed away on November 29, 2017 at his residence.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Augustine Davis Smith; sons, Ronnie Smith, Ray (Nancy) Smith both of Hazel Green, AL, and Steven Smith of Fayetteville, TN; daughters, Lisa (Russell) Peters and Lora (Dwight) Arnold both of Huntland, TN; nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Brice Tucker of Fayetteville, TN and Thelma (Ed) Shaneyfelt of Madison, AL; several nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, Tugar. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Robbie Reed, Edith Brewer, Ellis Warren Smith, Glynden Hall, and Lois Hughes.

Visitation with the family will be held Saturday, December 2, 2017, at 11 AM until time of service at 1 PM at Higgins Funeral Home. Higgins is honored to be serving the family of Mr. Smith.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society at Cary B. Sullivan, Lincoln County Tribute Chair, American Cancer Society, PO Box 470 Fayetteville, TN 37334.

Ronnie, Ray, & the rest of the family, I’m thinking & praying for you at the time. I thought so much of Pooch! It seemed he was always smiling.

I am so sorry for the loss of Mr. Pooch. I have fond memories of him when I was a child and visited with Robbie and Randy (cousins on our mothers side). May the coming days bring you peace and comfort.
