Funeral service for Rev. Joe Ward Mayberry, age 82 of Fayetteville, will be conducted Wednesday at 11 AM at Fayetteville First Baptist Church with Rev Glenn Hester and The Honorable Larry Potter and Rev. Van Johnson officiating. Burial will follow beside his wife Martha Miller Mayberry in Dickson County Memorial Gardens. Rev. Mayberry passed away Friday afternoon at Lynchburg Care Center.
A native of Hickman County, Rev. Mayberry was the son of the late Tom and Flora Stewart Mayberry, a graduate of Vanderbilt Divinity School, and was pastor of several Baptist congregations before becoming Director of Missions for the William Carey Baptist Association for 20 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daughter Vickie Radway of Frankewing, son Joseph Stephen Mayberry of Fayetteville, brothers Thomas and Ben Mayberry both of Centerville, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be Tuesday from 5 PM till 8 PM at Higgins Funeral Home.

Vickie and Steve, So sorry to hear about the death of uncle Joe. I hope that yo can feel the way about him as I did my dad. It was a relief to me because of what he was going through and what Mother and the rest was going through. You do have my sympathy. I am sorry that won'[t be there. I had back surgery about 6 wks. ago and it is just hard for me to ride very far or sit very long. We will thinking about you and work all works out well.

We were saddened to hear of your dad’s death. We , along with many other friends, have some wonderful memories working alongside Bro. Joe. He always had a smile and something witty to say. He was a good friend to many and a great preacher.. always enjoyed hearing him speak. You both have our deepest sympathy.

So sorry for your loss of being able to see your Dad here, but you know he is in Heaven enjoying his just reward. We can rejoice in the testamony he has left behind for wonderful memories to comfort you. I knew your Mother, Martha, while working at the craft store on the square many years ago. Precious people!! Vickie and Steve: I am so sorry to hear about Bro. Joe passing away. He was such a wonderful Christian man. He is now in heaven with Mrs. Martha. I am sure they are happy to be together again. A great man and a great grandfather. To serve so many people for so long with such an impact of the community he served. Everyone i have ever met who knew him always had a list of kind words to say about Daddy Joe, I believe he lived the most complete and fulfilling life possible. This being; everyone who knew him loved him, he served his country in a frogotten war, educated himself constantly, served others to the fullest, lived a happy life, and we never bitter of the cards life delt him. I don’t think there is much more to life than to live like he did.

I have come a long way since I visited your home as a young boy and man. You contributed to my growth. I appreciate your kindness, and I have thought of you many times over the years.
I know that your children are going to miss your company, but I hope they are comforted knowing that we all will be together again one day.
