Peggy Joyce Bates

Funeral service for Mrs. Peggy Joyce Bates, age 70, of Fayetteville, TN, will be conducted at 3 PM on Sunday, March 3, 2019, at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Randy Nichols and Rev. Dickey Sebastian officiating. Burial will follow next to her husband, Billy Paul Bates, in Kirkland Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday beginning at 1 PM until time of service at 3 PM.

Mrs. Bates was born on October 17, 1948 in Maury County, TN to the late Robert B. and Ethel V. Scoggins Wales. She worked as a parts washer at Amana Manufacturing and attended Maranatha Baptist Church. Peggy passed away on March 1, 2019.

Survivors include her sons, Anthony Keith (Amy) Posey of Elkmont, AL, Bruce David (Tammy) Posey of Ardmore, AL, and John R. (Krista) Griffin of Fayetteville, TN; step-sons, Russell and Patrick Bates both of Fayetteville, TN; brother, Gilbert Wales of Fayetteville, TN; sisters, Patricia (Mike) Davis of Athens, AL, Debbie (Gary) Barnes of Wetumpka, AL, and Gwen (Frank) Joop; grandchildren, Jessica (Steven) George, Makayla Posey, Dallas (Zac) Williams, and Gregory Griffin; and step-granddaughter, Tamra Bates. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Wales.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Maranatha Baptist Church, 187 Old Huntsville Rd, Fayetteville, TN 37334. Higgins Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Mrs. Bates.

Peggy was one of the sweetest ladies I have known. She had the biggest heart. I am so honored to have had her as a friend. Loved her. Praying for the family.

I thought the world of Peggy. We worked together for a long time in the press dept. at Amana no one worked harder than she did. I couldn’t have asked for a better co-worker and friend.
