Funeral service for Ms. Peggy Armstrong Durham will be conducted at 11am, Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Higgins Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Wright’s Cemetery.
Peggy was born on January 8, 1934 in McBurg, TN to the late Allen and Sammie Haislip Armstrong. She was a lifelong member of McBurg United Methodist Church and was an active member of the Son-Shine Girls. She worked as a seamstress for Serbin and Blue Ridge Shirt Manufacturing, was a quality inspector for Eagle Snacks, and after retirement she worked for Walmart deli. Ms. Durham was an avid quilter, loved to crochet, and was an active member of The Home Demonstration Club. Ms. Peggy lived with her daughter in North Carolina before moving to the Citadel in nearby Mooresville, where she passed away on May 10, 2021 at age 87.
Ms. Peggy lived in North Carolina with and near her daughter over the past 2.5 years. Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Leigh Durham Beatty and her husband Stephen of Statesville, NC; Grandson, Marcus Beatty of Statesville, NC; and two nieces. In addition to her parents Ms. Durham was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Merlon Durham, and a brother, Howard Armstrong. Ms. Peggy also had two God-grandchildren Anthony and Tiffany.
Visitation with the family will be from 5 PM until 8 PM on Friday, May 14, 2021. Memorials may be made to the Multi County Cancer Support Network, C/O Cary Sullivan, P.O. Box 470, Fayetteville, TN 37334.

Dear Lisa and family:
Your Mom was a very sweet lady. I use to pick her up and take her to choir practice on Wednesday nights until her health would no longer allow her to go. She had a beautiful alto voice and loved to sing hymns. May God’s promises bring peace and comfort to you and your family until that day when you are reunited in God’s heavenly kingdom. She has been missed since she left our community but we will always remember her.

Lisa & Marcus…Peggy was a delight. She was so fiesty. She told me one time not to call her Miss Peggy because she wasn’t that much older than me (and she wasn’t). I don’t know how she managed to drive as long as she did because she got so stooped she couldn’t see out the car window. Her humor was contagious and she didn’t mind telling you exactly how she felt about any subject. I miss her. Our church has lost a faithful member and a good Christian woman. Love and hugs to all of you. She left a legacy of love and fun.
