Graveside service for Mrs. Opelene Mitchell Hovis, age 88 of Fayetteville will be conducted at 11:15 AM on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at Rose Hill with Rev. Daniel Meaker officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 10 AM to 11AM on Wednesday at Higgins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hovis was born on November 26, 1931 in Dellrose, TN to the late Elmer Carl and Mary Elizabeth Teeters Mitchell. She was a dedicated homemaker. In addition to providing a loving home for her family, she loved flowers, gardening, yard work, and cooking. Opelene was a member of the Coldwater United Methodist Church. She passed away on October 12, 2020 at Donalson Care Center.
Survivors include her husband, Billy Hovis; sons, Johnny Hovis and Freddy Hovis of Coldwater; daughter, Judy Lynn (Charles) Smith of Athens, AL; grandchildren, Felicia (Jason) Newton, Tracie (Patrick) Towry; and Josh Hovis; great-grandson, Blake Motlow; sister, Jane (Eugene) Isbell of Huntsville, AL. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Leon Mitchell and Reba Jean Watson.
