Odell McCoy Poteete

Funeral service for Mrs. Odell McCoy Poteete, age 78, of Fayetteville, TN, will be conducted Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 3:30 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Wayne McGee officiating. Burial will follow in Carter Hills Cemetery. Mrs. Poteete passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2016 in Huntsville Hospital.

Mrs. Poteete was a native of Lincoln County, TN, the daughter of the late Eugene and Bessie May Hulsey McCoy. She was a homemaker and farmer and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include daughters Rachel (Ronnie) Spears of Fayetteville, TN, Linda (Steve) Smith of Mooresburg, TN, sons Bobby Gene (Fayetta) Poteete of Fayetteville, TN, Joe M. (Robin) Poteete of Bean Station, TN, son-in-law Robert Posey, sisters Rachel Anderson of Gurley, AL, Modina Ashby, Gracie Long both of Fayetteville, TN, Faye (Larry) Bunn of Hazel Green, AL, brother J.D. (Shelby) McCoy of High Ridge, MO, 11 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Joe Poteete, daughter Brenda Posey, grandsons David Allen Posey, Wade Allen Casey, brother Gene Robert McCoy and sister Peggy Harris.

Visitation with the family will be Friday, November 4, 2016 from 5 until 8 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home.

So many great memories of Joe and Odell….very special friends. Brian and I have you all in our thoughts and prayers. Ms Odell was one of a kind…she will be greatly missed.

I’m so sorry for hear this. I loved her she was like a grandmother to me! I’ve know her all my life spent many of nights at her house! I will greatly miss her! She was a loving person. Cared deeply for her family and friends!

All of your St. Louis family are very saddened by the death of Odell. We have very warm memories of her. We used to so enjoy the visits her and Joe would make to visit with us, She was a very special lady and her family was her life. She will be greatly missed.

Aunt Odell, You will be greatly missed. You were a firecracker and full of life. You and mom were so much alike. I had some great times with you after we moved back home to retire. You never acted your age. I just hope that I can get around as good as you did when I’m your age. You will turkey be missed. To all of my cousins. I love you and I’m here for you if there is anything I can do to help, don’t hesitate to call.
