Norma Jean Thornton Higgs

Funeral service for Norma Jean Thornton Higgs, age 76 of Fayetteville, will be conducted at 2pm on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at Higgins Funeral Home, with Bro. Joe Wayne McGee officiating. Burial will follow in Wright’s Cemtery. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, September 22, 2020 from 12pm until 2:00pm at Higgins Funeral Home.

Ms. Higgs passed away on September 19, 2020 at Donalson Care Center in Fayetteville, TN. She was born on May 22, 1944 in Lincoln County, TN to the late James A. and Thelma McGee Thornton.

Ms. Higgs worked for the State of Tennessee, Family’s First Program until her retirement. She was of the Church of Christ faith.

Norma is survived by her son, Allan (Teresa) Higgs of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Mikhala Dorminey, Robert Wade Dorminey, Austin Beddingfield, Ryan Kinsey, Lilly Higgs, and Piper Higgs; great-grandchild, Maddilyn Kinsey; brothers, Eddie Lee (Judy) Thornton of Fayetteville and Ronald (Bernice) Thornton of Gainsville, FL; sister-in-law, Ann Higgs (Bobby) Thomas. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Wade Higgs; daughter, Melissa Higgs Dorminey; and brother, Roger Thornton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the National Kidney Foundation, Inc., c/o Finance Department, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016.

Condolences to the Higgs and Thornton families for the loss of my cousin Norma. My mother, Sarah, was Thelma’s sister. I have fond memories of visits to TN when I was young. You are in our prayers.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Norma Higgs! She was married to my second cousin, Jimmy Wade! I always thought of Norma as a kind, sweet and loving person! She endured a great loss of family! May she Rest In Peace 🙏🏻❤️
