Dewayne, Nita, Elizabeth, and Michael’s family I never met: please know how very sad I am at this tragic accident. Jim and I have both been grieving for you all since we found out. Please know that we are here if you need us…we loved Michael as a kid, hanging out w/Chad: had some adventures back then! Lost touch as he got older. May the comfort of God be with you all….love y’all…Charlotte and Jim

On behalf of my family, I am deeply saddened to know of “Ink’s” death. His kindness and attention to my daughter, Caroline, was an example of his contributions that left an impact upon the community. Caroline was very interested in archery. Michael’s tutoring, patience, and attention to her unique learning style immediately built a love for the sport and admiration for the man that took the time to develop her skills. He was always respectful, courteous, and kind to me and my family. I cannot ever recall a time that he did not take a moment to speak to my children with genuine kindness and concern, building in them a sense of importance when they were in his presence. His instruction and kindness in support of the 4-H archery program, a program my wife started to further my children’s passions as well as those of many of the children active in 4-H, were equally praiseworthy. As a combat veteran I fully understand the risks he was exposed to while representing his country and defending our ideals and interests. He did so with honor and purpose. Our nation, community, and my family lost a good man and a friend. Our heartfelt sympathies are extended to his family and we hope our Creator will heal his family’s heart and provide them comfort during this difficult period.

Ink was the main reason we had the confidence to start the 4-H Archery Team. He was always helpful and kind to the team members, always an expert in the sport, and always excited when we succeeded. We have suffered a great and irreplaceable loss.

I only knew him at Bucca but he was a great person to be around. I am a 5 now, but I can only hope to be half the professional and awesome example of an NCO that he was. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
