Funeral services for Melvin Hopkins, age 86 of Taft, will be conducted Friday December 18, 2015 at 1 PM at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Wayne Harwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Neeley Cemetery. Mr. Hopkins passed away Tuesday December 15, 2015 at St. Thomas West in Nashville.
He was a native of Lincoln County and the son of the late Hurley Annual and Maude Scott Hopkins. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star and a decorated Navy Corpsman. Mr. Hopkins was a supervisor for South Central Bell and a member of the Unity Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife Joyce Hudgens Hopkins of Taft, daughters Patricia “Trish” (Curtis) Neal and Christine Turner, three sons Les (Leata Williams) Hopkins, David Hopkins and Tommy Hopkins, grandchildren Christy Smith, Jimmy Hall, Tamara Roberts, Candice Hopkins, Heather Jenkins, Jeannie Hopkins and Kristy Cantrell and seven great grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be Thursday December 17, 2015 from 5-8 PM at Higgins Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Unity Church of Christ, c/o Tommy Scott, 2095 Scott Road, Hazel Green, AL 35750.
