Mary Katherine Ventress Spurlock

Funeral services for Mary Katherine Ventress Spurlock and Vernon Rogers Spurlock, of Fayetteville will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at Higgins Funeral Home Rev. Kirk Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Kelso Cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Spurlock passed away on Tuesday at their residence.

Mrs. Spurlock a native of Lincoln County was the daughter of the late Cullum and Stella Pigg Ventress and was a homemaker. Mr. and Mrs. Spurlock were member of the Kelso Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Spurlock a native of Lincoln County was the son of the late Fred and Allie Mills Spurlock and a self-employed mail contractor. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy serving in the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include two sons, Roger Spurlock and wife Clara of Fayetteville , Lanny Spurlock and wife Melissa of Fayetteville, grandchildren Mary Beth Seals, Blair Spurlock, Joseph Spurlock, Evan Spurlock, Rianne Spurlock, Cullum Spurlock and Meghan Sullenger all of Fayetteville, great-grandchildren Cason Seals, Madeline Seals, Kiana Buchanan, Kyliah Simpson. Mr. Spurlock is survived by three sisters Dot Gray of New Market, Belle Gray New Market and Wilma Bedwell of Shelbyville, and one brother Glen Spurlock of Fayetteville. Mrs. Spurlock is survived by two brothers Joe Ventress of Big Cove, AL, and Larry Ventress of Fayetteville. T.hey were preceded in death by a child Kathe Flo Spurlock, a sister Betty Tipps and by a brother Paul Ventress.

Visitation with the family will be Thursday evening 5-8 p.m. At Higgins Funeral Home.

The family request memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Roger, Lanny, Larry and all family members, we are saddemed over the loss of two wonderful people. Our hearts go out to each and every family member, as we know how very much they will be missed by all that knew them.

Larry, Sharron, & families, We are so sorry for the loss of your loved ones. They were really great people to talk with. I always enjoyed our talks so much. I went to school with Mary Katherine. She was always such a caring person even as a young girl then. You are a strong & loving family & you will be there for each other in your time of sorrow. Our prayers & thoughts are with each of you. Lanny…

I was shocked and saddened to see the notice of your parent’s passing. I lost my father two days later, on November 8, and I know how tough this can be. I know you adored your parents, and I hope you find solace in the memories of your time with them. Hoping the best for you.
