Luther Carmon “L.C.” Hammons

Funeral service for Luther Carmon “L.C.” Hammons, age 92, of Fayetteville, TN will be conducted at 1 PM on Saturday, December 7, 2019, at Parks City Baptist Church with Bro. Don Russell and Bro. Charlie Hammons officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be from 11 AM until 1 PM on Saturday at Parks City Baptist Church.

L.C. was born on March 8, 1927 in Overton County, TN to the late Edward Tucker and Serena Oella Matheny Hammons. He served in the United States Navy and was a gunner on a destroyer in WWII. Mr. Hammons worked as a Plants Engineer at GTE/Automatic Electric in Huntsville, AL. He always enjoyed working and after retirement did ministry construction and home repairs for widowed members of his church. L.C. was a member of the Parks City Baptist Church and served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and on the long range planning committee. Mr. Hammons passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

Survivors include his wife of 75 years, Arvelene Nail Hammons; son, Bro. Charlie (Judy) Hammons of Fayetteville, TN; daughter, Donna (Joel) Ledbetter of Signal Mountain, TN; grandchildren, Keith (Liz) Hammons, Kevin (Wendy) Hammons, Cortney (Mark) Hoffman, Carmen (Jacob) LeVally, Megan (Alex Beene) Ledbetter, and Madeline Ledbetter; great-grandchildren, Glenn (Kristin) Hammons, Emma (Kensey) Morar, Jim Hammons, Ellie Hammons, Baylee (Jake) Taylor, Maycee Hammons, Tucker Hoffman, Bentleigh Hoffman, Landon LeVally, and Oella Mae Beene; great-great-grandchildren, Jaxson Case Taylor and Caroline Elizabeth Morar; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, L.C. was preceded in death by his daughter, Helen Ann Hammons Beddingfield; great-grandson, Hayden Case Hammons; and siblings, Elvena Ashburn, Ernest Hammons, Beecher Hammons, Mary Roberson, Tim Hammons, Troy Hammons, Albert Hammons, Edna Randolf, and Margaret Roberts.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hayden C. Hammons Memorial Scholarship at P.O. Box 116, Fayetteville, TN 37334. Higgins Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Luther Carmon “L.C.” Hammons.

Arvelene and family, we are so very sorry for your loss. You already know how much we loved L.C. He built our home 32 years ago and we still love it . He was such a wonderful Christian man. He will truly be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you

Uncle L. C. taught me a lot as a boy and later as a young man and father. We have the utmost respect for him and his life. We love him and Aunt Arvelene and pray for the whole family.
