It is with regret we announce the passing of LTC Eddie Ray Sims, US Army (Retired), age 84, of Dellrose, TN. LTC Sims was born December 3, 1940, in Alexandria, TN to the late Johnie Loyd Sims and Maurine Henley Sims. He passed away February 26, 2025, at HH Lincoln Health in Fayetteville, TN.
LTC Sims was a 1964 graduate of United States Military Academy West Point, and he served for 22 years including tours in Vietnam. After retirement he worked for several years as a contractor with Nichols Research in Huntsville, AL. LTC Sims treasured his time on the farm in Dellrose cultivating specialized grasses and raising Wagyu cattle. He will be missed by his family who loved him dearly.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Farrell Sims; sons, Michael (Meritt) Sims, John (Kristen) Sims, and Mark (Marsha) Sims; grandchildren, Marshall (Bekah) Sims, Macey (Manny) Salazar, Matt (Grayson) Sims, Maggie Sims, Mary Henley Sims, Anna Sims, Ian Sims, Campbell (Gabby) Sims, Elliott Sims; great-grandchildren, Luca Salazar and Micah Sims; and siblings, Loydean Smithwick, Carlene (Gilly) Gilleland, Barbara (Phillip) Allison, and Johnie (Patsy) Sims. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Ellie Sims, and sister, Faye Moore.
Inurnment will take place later this year at West Point Cemetery in West Point, NY. Memorial donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.

Colonel Sims was always so kind to me. I met him when I was in college through John and Mark, and I am so glad I saw him just this summer at his grandson Campbell’s wedding. He was a wonderful man.

I am so sorry to learn of my math Professor’s death, but am so happy to be able to praise his life! Jean and the boys: your husband and dad was always kind to me at West Point and so very giving. I remember the water skiing trips at Lake Popolopen in ya’lls boat and the LTC loaning his 260Z to me to drive my date into NYC (how brave of him)! I wish I had visited you all in TN. Life happens and we miss seeing those who affected our lives. God bless his family. Jean, thanks for being my sponsor!
