Lois Caldwell O’Neal

Funeral service for Mrs. Lois Caldwell O’Neal, age 86, of Fayetteville, will be conducted at 2 PM on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at the Fayetteville Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Bro. Tim Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. O’Neal was born on September 24, 1931 to the late Malvern and Verna Mae Collins Caldwell. She was a native of Lincoln County and grew up in the Boonshill Community on Reed Hollow. Mrs. O’Neal was a lifelong member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and earned the Golden Patron of Missions Award for her fifty years of service in Women’s Ministry. She was an Elder and enjoyed traveling with her church. Mrs. O’Neal was a Girl Scout Leader to her children and served as a room mother during their school years. Lois and her late husband, James loved their children very much and always participated in activities with their children.

Mrs. O’Neal sewed and ironed for the public in her earlier years. She worked at Blue Ridge Shirt Manufacturing and in the Fayetteville City Schools Cafeteria. Mrs. O’Neal enjoyed camping, quilting and meeting new friends. Lois was a member of the “Red Hat” Ladies and played on a bowling league. She always found time to spend with her loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. O’Neal passed away on February 15, 2018 at Huntsville Hospital.

Survivors include her children, Rex (Becky) O’Neal, DeLois (Joe) Thompson both of Fayetteville, and Franklyn (Shonagh) O’Neal of Kelso; grandchildren, Chris (Laura) Thompson, Jim Bob (Stacy) Thompson both of Huntland, TN, Sara Jo Thompson (Jeff) Irons of Kauai, HI, Matt (Amie) O’Neal of Fayetteville, Mark (Karie) O’Neal of Gurley, AL, Melissa (Jim) Chambers of Fayetteville, Nick (Lyndsey) O’Neal of Jackson, TN, Katelynn O’Neal of Wilmington, OH, Dorothy Simons of Cleveland, TN, Kendel Kitchen of Smyrna, and Katie Kitchen of Fayetteville; great-grandchildren, Allen Thompson, Emily (Iggy) Brewer, Morgan Thompson, Kayla (Trevor) Anderson, Harley Thompson, Hayden Thompson, Will O’Neal, Anna Beth O’Neal, Orion Irons, Parker Simons, Graier Simons, Logan Lake, Liam O’Neal, Addilyn O’Neal, Kenyia Thomas and Kaleigha Thomas; great-great-grandchildren, Hollie Anderson, Trent Anderson and Gwendolyn Brewer; and sisters, Lenus (Tom) Ganus and Lorene Pirtle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James A. O’Neal; brother, Lester Caldwell; and a sister, Louise Caldwell Stevenson.

Visitation with the family will be 5 PM until 8 PM on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Higgins Funeral Home. Higgins Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Mrs. Lois Caldwell O’Neal.

This was such a kind and special Christian lady. Rex and I were classmates and she has always gone out of her way to speak to me through the years. She has been a blessing to many!
