Mrs. Lois Black Faison, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt, died peacefully surrounded by family on January 8, 2019 in Nashville, TN at the age of 82. Known affectionately as Hankie, Mrs. Faison’s vivacity and charm made an impression on everyone she encountered. Born on April 6, 1936 in Harrisburg, PA to the late Colonel Robert Wesley Black, Jr. and Marion Thacker Black, she led an adventurous life driven by infectious curiosity and a grand sense of humor. She loved to travel, especially with her grandchildren; and her thirst for knowledge led her across the globe. Well-read, generous, and gregarious, she loved to make people laugh and could effortlessly put people at ease. She belonged in the spotlight and was a fantastic storyteller. She was a longtime member of St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church, a caring leader in the community, a fantastic Southern cook, and great supporter and enthusiast of the arts.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Joe Faison; sons, Jody (Megan) Faison of Brentwood, TN, George (Beth) Faison of Decatur, AL, and Rob Faison of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Joseph Faison, IV, Elizabeth (Phillip) Clifton, Kate Faison, Sam Faison, Jack Faison, Elisa Faison (Wil Heflin), Emily Faison (Jordan Lee), Eva Marie Faison, Pete Faison, and Rebecca Faison; great grandson Hank Clifton; nieces, Jill Kreifels, Mandy Tucker, Laura Briggs, Lisa Peeler; nephew John Alter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Susan Black Briggs and Judy Black Alter, and her beloved dog Sweet Pea.
Funeral Service for Mrs. Faison will be conducted at 1 PM on Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Higgins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be at 11 AM until time of service at 1 PM on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fayetteville-Lincoln County Public Library, P.O. Box 61, Fayetteville, TN 37334, or St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church at PO Box 150, Fayetteville, TN 37334.

My heart breaks for the family. I had gotten to know her well. She made me laugh and never held her opinion back. Loved spending time with her. I visited her on a regular basis at Lynchburg and loved to see the smile come across her face. But more than anything I know she loved her family. She always had an update on everyone. But my son loved her like a mother. She could not have been better to him as if he were her own. She will be truly missed and when mondays come around, my day for a visit I will think of her with deep love

Mrs. Lois was a jewel. She was one of my favorite customers and friends. She was always full of herself and definitely entertaining to all. Rest In Peace as you will be missed. Prayers to the family at this time.

I met Lois when her family moved to Ward Hill in the Howell community. She taught me how to color,she had a neat twist on how to use a crayon, visited her a few weeks before, Christmas, she was sitting up that day, we had a good visit. She always enjoyed our class reunions and monthly lunches. She will be missed.

I met Lois in the fifth grade at R.E.Lee school when her family first moved from the “North.” I remember well that our “snobbish” bunch of girls were just not sure we could befriend someone from the North, also someone who was very artistic and praised by our teacher, also someone who was so very smart in all of her subjects. Of course, we all soon became fast friends (who could not love her… no one could ignore her for long) and she was certainly one of my closest. …such memories, so many. Jody and family, loved your mom and family- she was exactly like I read- always cheerful and made you laugh and a great cook! enjoyed the music practices at your house and Andy’s house because of your mothers – I bet she was a great grandmother! praying for God’s comfort during this time
