Katherine Louise Slayton

It is with regret we announce the passing of Mrs. Katherine Louise Slayton, known as “Sissy”, age 68, of Fayetteville, TN.

Katherine was born on November 23, 1952 in Munising, MI to the late William and Marjorie Somerville. She worked as a Cashier for Parsons Oil Company for 21 years. Katherine was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed her job, spending time with her children, grand-children and siblings. She enjoyed playing card games, playing bingo, playing the lottery, and she enjoyed relaxing outside listening to her wind-chimes. Years ago she enjoyed fishing along the river, camping, going for walks in the rain and walking through the woods. Our greatest memory of mom will be her strength, courage, unconditional love that she had for family, her kind heart and compassion hugs. Anyone that knew her seen the beauty that shine through her soul. She passed away on February 15, 2021 at St. Thomas West in Nashville, TN from side effect of a 2 year battle of Pulmonary Adeno Carcinoma.

Katherine and Dannie used to go camping every weekend at Kitchen Hollow. They loved walking around together and picking up broken glass. Katherine also loved going to the mountains in Huntland. She would sit and peacefully watch water falls. She will be dearly missed by her loving family.

Survivors include her spouse of 23 years, Dannie Slayton; daughters, Kathy (Todd) Marlink of Holland, MI, and Angel Renee Neeley of Fayetteville, TN; son, Lloyd David Richardson of Bangor, MI; son-in-law, Ronald Heffington; grandchildren, Mariah Shiflett, Ceaiara Heffington, Heather (Hank) Mays, Megan Heffington, Elizabeth Smith, Anthony Heffington, Ron Heffington, Caleb Richardson, Jedediah Chivalry Neeley, and Cannon Neeley; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Becky (Tom) Bockelmann, Wanda Wellington, and Alice Long; and brothers, William Somerville and John Somerville. In addition to her parents, Katherine was preceded in death by her daughter, Lynn Ann Heffington; brother, Dennis Somerville; and a sister, Jenny Cloft.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Pleasant Grove Cemetery with Rev. Robert Doud officiating. There will be no visitation prior to the graveside service.

Its so hard to narrow down just one memory that I have of mom but I will try to keep it brief. We often had a house full of extra kids, mom was the community weekend baby sitter and the love she had for all these kids is a memory I will always have.
We would go for drives on country roads looking for bottles and when we stubbled across apple fields or corn fields mom would let us out of the car to pick a handful or two. It was always a great time.
I enjoyed working in blueberry fields with mom, having long talks, playing Bingo in a hall for the first time when I turned 18, meeting at the tavern when I turned 21 so she could buy me a drink and play pool.
My most valuable memory is knowing that I had a true friend and the greatest mom.
