She was a graduate of West End High School and attended Tennessee A & I College after she graduated from Cayleck Beauty School and Riches Culinary School in Buffalo, NY. Johnnie was baptized into Christ seventy three years ago. She feared God and kept his Commandments. She felt if you stay with the Lord “You never walked alone”. Johnnie was the bookkeeper for the Mayberry St. Church of Christ for approximately fifty years. She enjoyed Bible classes and visiting other congregations. She was employed at Scovill Mfg. Co. for a number of years and retired from Eagle Snacks. She enjoyed numerous activities including cooking and was known for her special Sunshine and Pound Cake. She looked forward to preparing family dinners. She loved the outdoors especially working in her flower garden and fishing. Stacey took her on her last fishing trip in April 2013. She enjoyed that trip and caught several fish. She would beam when she talked about her two sons, two grandson and two great-grandsons. She would say we do not have little girls in our home for buttons and bows. She enjoyed traveling with her daughter-in-law Cleo, getting lost would not phase her. She would say “if you can read you can find your way.”

To the Family,
We were so heartbroken to hear of Aunt Johnnie Mae’s passing. We have a Savior who sent his angels here to take her so quietly and peacefully. Brianca & Jasmine loved to spend the summer with her in the country and they still cherish those visits. Learning bible verses, cooking, playing dominoes, learning how to iron and so much more. Growing up at Mayberry Street, Johnnie Mae was an inspiration to me. Love you all.

What a sweet lady… she will be sorely missed by her family and friends…she worked with my father in law J.T. McBay at Scovill and both spoke highly of each other…. then later years I worked with her at Eagle Snacks and fell in love with her as well…may she find peace…. and fishing poles in Heaven…
