Funeral service for John Thomas Howell, age 69, of Taft, TN, will be held at 2:30 PM on Sunday, September 18, 2022, at Higgins Funeral Home, with Pastor Lon Ostrzycki officiating. Burial will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery.
John was born on November 12, 1952, in Russellville, AL, to the late Benjamin and Gladys Erlene Smith Howell. He was a graduate of Hazel Green High School, worked as a machinist with Dixie Metal Craft, and was a highly skilled welder. Mr. Howell built custom BBQ Smokers and enjoyed watching NFL and NASCAR. He was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Hazel Green, AL. John passed away on September 15, 2022, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
Survivors include his wife and life companion of 51 years, Diane Henderson Howell; daughters, Tammie Howell (Jon) MacDonald and Amy Howell (Paul) Holcomb both of Fayetteville; grandson, Reed Holcomb; bonus grandchildren, Madison and Dylan MacDonald; great-grandchildren, Nash and Sadie Fowler; sister, Linda Troutt; special nieces, Chloe and Charleigh James; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister, Gladys Yocom.
Visitation with the family will be from 5 PM until 8 PM on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Higgins Funeral Home.

John was one super fine guy….big heart, big sense of humor and a steadfast friend! He will be missed! RIP, good friend!
