Phillip Sugg, (Daddy, Pop, Big Phil) 78, passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, Florida after a brief illness on January 26, 2018. He was a resident of Signal Mountain, TN for over 30 years but his childhood home was Fayetteville, TN which will be his final resting place.
Phillip was a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was employed for 30 years in sales at Brock Candy Company. Upon his retirement, he spent most of his time in Florida with his daughter and grandson.
He loved his family immensely and is survived by his brother, Tom (Imelda) Sugg; daughter, Beth Kinsey (Grandson – Daniel Kinsey); son Phillip Sugg III; son, Robert Rippy; son, Jeff (Karen) Rippy; daughter, Gayle Rippy; son, John (Lisa) Rippy; daughter, Sara Rippy; nephews, Will Sugg and Drew (Jill) Sugg; and hosts of other family.
He was preceded in death by his precious parents, Jack and Elizabeth Sugg.
Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at 1:00 PM at Higgins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Wednesday at 11:00 AM until time of service.

When Philip and Joyce were married, we spent many week-ends with them. And loved Little Phillip(aka, Charlie Brown) and Beth . So sorry those days are gone, but the good memories last forever! He was a good-un!

Since I chatted with Phillip several times prior to our Class of ’57 Reunion, I had the joy of sharing many laughs and reminiscing. Beth, you were mentioned often, but…Daniel, you were the main topic. He was so proud of you and so thankful that he was able to drive you to football practice. My love and sympathy to all of the family and saddened to say goodbye to our classmate-Phillip Sugg.

So sorry for the loss of of another classmate. So many memories – going all the way back to first grade through college. Roomed together for two years in college at MTSC. We did so much together growing up. Good to know he carried for and was carried for by a loving family.

I knew Jack first when I was growing up on Polk St. , then Elizabeth. I think I first knew Philip when they lived on Green St. He has been a life long friend and I always enjoyed seeing him. He was younger them than I am but he always had a hug and a big smile when I saw him. I am so sorry for your loss and his family will be in my prayers. I am sure he and Gerald are planning something now.

The Sugg family was so important in my life. Mrs. Sugg was like a second mother to me. Phillip and Tom were part of the group who ‘played out’ many summer nights. I lost touch with the family but cherish my memories of them. May God bless you in your loss.
