It is with regret we announce the passing of John “Jack” Wallace Shutt, age 78, of Fayetteville, TN. Jack was born on September 18, 1947, in Florida, to the late John Lloyd Shutt and Margaret Harris Shutt. He passed away on August 21, 2026.
Survivors include his wife, Gail Shutt; daughter, Rachel Harwell; and grandchildren, Will Harwell and Maci Harwell.
Private services were held at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to HH Foundation, Hospice Family Care, 699 Gallatin St. SW, Building A, Huntsville, AL 35801.

So sorry to the Family on the passing if your loved one. He was a good friend for years and help start the Free Volunteer Income Tax at SCHRA.

Jack and I were high school bosom buddies. We lived about four houses apart in East Brunswick, New Jersey, while his father worked at the Boy Scouts national headquarters in North Brunswick, NJ. Jack was an only child, so he and I became spiritual brothers. His parents were like my second parents, and I spent a huge amount of time at their house. I remember so many things that Jack and I did together, including playing ping pong — it was nearly impossible to beat his father — bowling, and simply driving around town. And of course, we talked incessantly about girls. Jack and I even did a history project together for school that won an award: a documentary on the Battle of Ft. Sumter. We were thrilled to be able to make a movie, an 8mm film that we narrated ourselves, and I still have a copy of that film, now converted to an MP4 video. The last time I saw Jack was in 2009. When he fell ill I wanted to come visit him again, but he told me not to come. We had a few brief telephone conversations, but he could never talk for long. I will remember my spiritual brother as full of fun when we were younger. My sincere condolences go out to Gail and Rachel and Jack’s extended family. May he truly rest in peace.
