Joe L. Land, age 84, of Hazel Green, AL, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening January 14, 2014 at Huntsville Hospital. Mr. Land was born August 7, 1929 in Lincoln County and was the son of the late George and Grace Carter Land. He was an army veteran serving in the Korean War, a retired barber of 40 years and was a member of the Family Worship Center in Hazel Green, AL.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years Jo Ann Harbin Land, two daughters, Nancy Vivian Fried and Karen Elizabeth Potesta and son-in-law Carl Fried, who was more like a son, three grandsons, Joey Fried (Marcia), Carl Fried, Jr. (Jillian) and Drew Potesta, a granddaughter Laura Potesta, five great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and his best friend, his devoted dog, Chloe. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Richard and Billy Bob Land.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 PM at Higgins Funeral Home with Eddie Lones and Ronald Land (his nephew) officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens.
Visitation with the family will be Thursday evening 6-8 PM at Higgins Funeral Home.
