Joe Franklin Armstrong

Funeral service for Joe Franklin Armstrong, age 71, of Petersburg will be conducted at 2pm on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Tommy Graham officiating. Burial will follow in Wright’s Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Saturday, September 26, 2020 from 12pm until 2:00pm at Higgins Funeral Home.

Mr. Armstrong passed away on September 22, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 21, 1949 in Lincoln County, TN to the late James Henry B. and Edna Carrie Laws Armstrong.

Mr. Armstrong was a graduate of Central High School who served in the U.S. Army after graduation. Upon returning to Lincoln County, he started a beef cattle farm, as well as, working thirty-five years at the Eaton Corporation as an assembler and then National Pen for twelve years as a computer technician. Upon retirement, Joe worked tirelessly on his beef farm and enjoyed attending auctions. He was of the Baptist faith and attended the McBurg First Baptist Church.

Joe is survived by his wife, Melissa Armstrong; sons, Joseph Armstrong and Paul (Tina Cummins) Armstrong, both of Petersburg; grandchildren, Brandy (Darryl) Paulus, Harmony Lynn Armstrong, Noah Henry Armstrong, Robert Colt Balch, and Rylee Caitlyn Balch; great-grandchildren, Dominick Rylan and Braxton Alexander Paulus; sister, Wanda Dean Armstrong of Kelso; sister-in-law, Rita Armstrong; and nephews, Tim (Rae Ann) Armstrong of Shawnee, KS, Mike (Simin) Armstrong of Hattiesburg, MS, Wayne Armstrong of Belleville, and Dwayne Armstrong of Belleville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jackie Wayne Armstrong and Phillip Dolan Armstrong; sister-in-law, Ginger Armstrong; daughter-in-law, Bertha Bailey; and nephew, Brian Armstrong.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Liver Foundation, 16 Hampton Village Plaza, Suite 215, St. Louis, MO 63109.

Mrs. Melissa, Joe, and Paul…..my deepest sympathies to you all. I enjoyed talking with Mr. Joe when he was in buying fuel. He was a fine man and I know nothing I say can make this any easier, but I do know he sure loved his family. Prayers for you all in the days ahead.
