Joan Vann

Joan Vann, beloved aunt and sister, life-long member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and resident of Vann Town, TN, passed away peacefully at home on October 10th, 2019 at the age of 78. She was surrounded by loved ones.

Joan was born in Lincoln County, TN to the late Earl and Rachel Towry Vann. Survivors include her sister, Sherry Vann Abboud and husband Brett of Vann Town, TN; nephews, Justin Logan (Rebecca Harris) and daughter Brooklee of Vann Town, TN, Jared Logan (Anna Spore) of Vann Town, TN, Joshua Tucker (Kendall) Lochlan of Kaneohe, HI; and three loving dogs, Winston, Kady and Buddy. In addition to her parents, Ms. Vann was preceded in death by her brother, Earl Vann, Jr.; sister, Donna Lynn Vann; grandparents, W.A. and Martha Spates Vann and Dalton and Inez Fowler Towry; and a cat and dog, Cookie and Max.

Joan fancied herself a connoisseur of all things sweet. Strawberries & whipped cream, chocolate, coffee frappuccino, and any flavor of ice cream in a cone were her top picks. She served as the church secretary for many years and truly loved attending Pleasant Hill Baptist and was delighted in participating in church activities with her friends.

She was a problem-solver who, with her friend Patty Kosik, would often take on difficult jigsaw puzzles which were completed at an alarming rate. Most days (when Joan was home) you would find them watching Home and Family checking out new recipes or attempting to solve a TV mystery of the day.

Joan was an avid reader. She enjoyed beating her friends and family at dominoes. She loved to travel the world and did so frequently. A favorite destination was Puerto Rico, we think mostly due to her love of really great coffee. Joan truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures: snacking, checking the yard for new blooms and spending time with her immediate family.

A true animal lover, she was originally a cat person that was swayed to love dogs equally by her first Westie, Max.

Joan truly enjoyed Mexican food with chips and salsa. Her musical tastes ran towards country but included the Beatles and Elvis of course. She enjoyed comedians Lucille Ball, Carol Burnett, and Reba McIntyre. Her evening viewing would usually be anything shown on Hallmark or Lifetime.

Joan delighted Christmas decorations particularly her Christmas villages. Also, Christmas time brought out peppermint sticks which she looked forward to each year.

Funeral service will be conducted at 4:30 PM on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Ray Gardner and Rev. Milton Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church at 3 PM until time of service at 4:30 PM. Higgins Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Ms. Joan Vann.

In lieu of flowers memorial can be made to the Fayetteville Lincoln County Animal Shelter, PO Box 37, Fayetteville, TN 37334.

What a sweet lady. I will never play dominos again without remembering her. That twinkle in her eye as she played the last one and won! God Bless her!
