Jimmy Thurston English

Funeral service for Jimmy Thurston English, age 80, of Fayetteville, TN, will be conducted at 11 AM on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Andy Irwin officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Cemetery.

Jimmy was born on October 28, 1938 at the Old English Home Place to the late James Cullum English and Jewel Christine Hazelwood English Barnes. Mr. English served in the US Navy and was a member of the West Fayetteville Church of Christ. He retired in 2001 from Copperweld and returned to his roots, farming. Jimmy was known as the “Molasses Man” and was a Goat Farmer. Mr. English was proud to live on his Eighth Generation Family Farm, where he was of the fifth generation raised there. He an avid gardener, earned many awards showing horses, and enjoyed cheering on the TN Lady Volunteers Basketball Team. Jimmy passed away on April 27, 2019, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Betty Jo Sawyer English; sons, Buddy (Cindy) English of Fayetteville, Tim (Jessica Moore) English of Fayetteville, and Jamie (Lisa) English of Flintville; grandchildren, LeAnne (Payton) Keller, Jedidiah (Crystal) English, Katilyn English, and Maggie Moore; great-grandchildren, Cullman Graham, Ellie Graham, Emree English, Bryson English and Charlie English; and special brother, Clay Sawyer. In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy English Poole; brother, James Robert English; and a grandson, Jeremiah English.

Visitation with the family will be from 5 PM until 8 PM on Monday, April 29, 2019 at Higgins Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bethel Cemetery Fund, c/o Betty Jo English, 12 Letha Thompson Road, Fayetteville, TN 37334. Higgins Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Jimmy Thurston English.

I am so sorry to hear that Jimmy deceased. I have known him and his family since childhood, growing up as neighbors. I’ve watched his Grandpa make molasses to give you an idea of how long it’s been.
