Burial will follow at Flintville Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held on September 26 from 1pm to 3pm at Higgins.

Jewell was born on September 8, 1935, in Jackson County, AL to the late John and Charlsie Carlton Wilson. She was a part of Awaken Life Church. Jewell passed away on September 23, 2021, at Lincoln Medical Center.

Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Painter Corder; son Curtis (Tammy) Painter; son-in-law, Jim Davis; grandchildren, Elyssha Corder, Macey Corder, Curt (Tara) Painter, Jacob (Niki) Painter, Nikki (Anthony) Jones, Whittney (Clay) Gill, Michael (Kelly) Davis; great-grandchildren, LeDoux Painter, Beau Painter, Charlsie Jones, Clay Jones, Madisyn Davis, Will Davis, Logan Davis, and Cayson Gill arriving soon; sisters, Judy Kaye Wilson (Harvey) Edwards, Hazel Hadden; many nieces and nephews; and wonderful friends Carolyn Greenwood and Dean Luttrell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Painter; daughter, Anis Painter Davis; brother, Wayne Wilson; brother-in-law, Pete Hadden; sister-in-law, Louise Wilson; and son-in-law, Dale Corder.

Jewell’s first love was her Lord Jesus Christ, her anchor, her everything. Her next love was for her children and grandchildren. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, praying daily for her family. To many she was just Nanny.  Jewell worked many years for the public doing what she loved best, cooking. She worked for Shrader’s Restaurant and Parsley’s Deli until she retired. Jewell also loved to cook for her family and many meals were shared around her table. She would cook enough to make sure everyone had more than enough, with plenty to take home with them as well.

Jewell loved gardening and canning food for the winter. She loved her flowers and made sure her porch was filled with them. Jewel would invite neighbors and family to sit with her on the porch with a cup of coffee or a glass of tea and would encourage them to take a cutting of a flower so they could start their own.

Most importantly, Jewell was devoted to making sure everyone knew the Lord Jesus Christ was her provider, healer, and keeper. Many times, she was found in her living room with the TV volume on high and worship music playing, no doubt in the presence of God, who she is with now, strolling the streets of gold with loved ones gone before. To all who knew her she was a true “Jewell”, and her words of wisdom today would be “Do you know Him?” because she would want to see you again in the heavenly home.

Higgins Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mrs. Jewell Painter.
