J.D. Merrell

Graveside service for J.D. Merrell, age 88, of Fayetteville, TN, will be conducted Friday, August 18, 2017 at 1 PM at Riverview Memorial Gardens with Bro. Don Russell officiating. Burial will be beside his wife, Betty Jo Sams Merrell.

Mr. Merrell, a native of Bruceton, TN, was the son of the late Fred and Gurthie Merrell. He worked on Redstone Arsenal in Property Management and was a member of Park City Baptist Church. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He passed away on August 16, 2017 at Lincoln Care Center.

Survivors include his daughters, Jan (Jim) Smith and Jenny Smith; grandchildren, Justin (Amy) Harwell, Jamie Cobb, Jason Smith, and Jessica Smith; and great-grandchildren, Aubrynn, Jacob, and Asher all of Fayetteville, TN. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters and four brothers.

Visitation with the family will be held at Higgins Funeral Home Friday, August 18, 2017, at 11 AM until time of service.

JD was the best neighbor you could ask for. He was a real friend. Best sense of humor ever. Great guy who will be missed.

It’s tough to lose a friend like Mr. Merrell. He has been and will be missed even more. He always made me feel good telling me how he enjoyed eating what little food I took him to eat from time to time. Especially when it was some crappie. 🙂 He loved that. Good bye for now ole buddy.
